Pitshanger Lane - 100 Years Old
in 2009 |
|
In 1909 Pitshanger Road, as it was then named, was
changed to Pitshanger Lane. Since then the Lane has
developed, along with the surrounding roads, into a
thriving and highly desirable residential area of
which many of us, who live in the area, are
justifiably proud and wish to retain the “village”
atmosphere. In 2009 the Lane reached the age
of 100 years old, a centenary year that was marked
by a wide range of community events. |

|
Centenary Events |
|
Among the many community events that took place
under the Pitshanger Centenary banner were the
Pitshanger Fun Run, the Brentham Open Gardens Day,
the St Barnabas Quiz Night, the tenth Pitshanger
Party In The Park, the Brentham Society Fred Perry
Centenary celebration, the PCA Pink Tea Party for
over-70's, the Pitshanger Memories photo exhibition
(and calendar), the inaugural PCA "Picnic in the
Park", the Brentham Open House Day, the Brentham
Cycle Outing, the PCA Streets Wars Quiz, a ferret
race evening, concerts by the Ealing Choral Society,
the St Barnabas Frost Fayre, a whole series of
concerts at St Barnabas Church and the first ever
Pitshanger Christmas Fayre (in place of Light Up The
Lane). |
|
Community Organisations |
|
The community organisations that took part in the
Pitshanger Centenary included St Barnabas Church,
16th Ealing (St Barnabas) Scout Group, Brentham
Society, Brentham May Day Committee, Rotary Club of
Hanwell & Northfields, Ealing Choral Society, Ealing
Youth Orchestra, Pitshanger PopStars, St Barnabas
Proms, Montpelier Primary School, North Ealing
Primary School, the Pitshanger Traders and last but
not least the Pitshanger Community Association. |
|
Community Legacy |
|
The Pitshanger Centenary itself lasted just one
year, but we aim to maintain and foster the sense of
cooperation between community organisations that
sprang up during the year. One way we will
help to do that is to maintain an on-line community
calendar that includes events run by a wide range of
local organisations as well as the PCA. The
Pitshanger Community Calendar is
here. |
