Ferret Racing

Return of the Ferrets - 2006

Following the success of the inaugural PCA ferret race evening in 2005, ferret-master Mike Harris of Slough brought his stable of prime racing ferrets back for a repeat performance on 17th March 2006.  Nearly 100 punters crowded into the Brentham Club to see a series of eight races.  The ferrets raced four at a time through specially constructed tubes.  The first one to emerge completely, including tail, was declared the winner. St Patrick's Day!

The 2006 PCA ferret race meeting happened to fall on St Patrick's day.  Some race-goers dressed for the occasion, which certainly added to the party atmosphere.  It may or may not have been a carry-over from the Cheltenham Festival, but the tote did very well this year.  Some punters even tried to work out ferret form, with varying degrees of success. Eight Races

The first seven races on the card were all sponsored by local individuals and businesses (see below), while the eighth was auctioned on the night.  Ticket sales, sponsorship and the PCA share of the tote pushed the profit from the 2006 Ferret Race Meeting to a magnificent £605, which will be used to fund community projects in the Pitshanger Area.
