LUTL 2006 - Run of Good Weather
Continues |
|
It was a miracle that the countdown for Light Up The
Lane 2006 ran to time. For one thing, K9 and
Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) from Dr Who had only
just beamed in from another space-time continuum,
and for another our regular countdown maestro Steve
Pound MP had to struggle against the distraction of
being goosed by a rather cheeky Dalek.
However, they reached zero at just the right moment
as the tree lights came on for another Christmas
season. |
 |
|
With cars banished for the evening, Pitshanger Lane
became a haven of entertainment, book-ended by two
stages (actually Fullers beer trucks borrowed for
the evening). Visitors to LUTL 2006 could
stroll between the two stages and sample a wide
range of acts including three school choirs, a samba
band, an adult choir, two dance groups, local
rockers the Buick Hill band and acts from the "Pitzhanga
Popstars" competition held at Party In The Park. |
 |
|
All along Pitshanger Lane, traders stayed open late
to offer mulled wine and and food ranging from
oysters to samosas, while the PCA barbecue stall
turned out a record number of burgers and hot dogs.
Street entertainers vied with one another to catch
the attention of the passing crowds, and other
attractions included a bouncy castle and a football
penalty challenge hosted by Fit For Sport. |
