PIP 2006 Report

Would anyone turn up?  Or would they stay at home to watch England's game against Ecuador in the World Cup?  Those questions were foremost in the minds of the event team, who had been working for months on preparations for the PCA's annual summer extravaganza.  As it was, plenty of people turned up to enjoy the many attractions on offer, including the 100 year old carousel, rides on which were free thanks to generous sponsorship from the Pitshanger Traders. 100 year old "galloper" carousel
In between rides on the carousel and taking part in sporting challenges posed by Fit For Sport, PIP visitors could settle down and enjoy the acts performing on the main stage.  This year, local dance groups and choirs shared the stage with contestants in the first ever "Pitzhanga Popstar" competition, judged by a panel chaired by television presenter and musician Michael Groth. One stall that is always popular on a warm day is the Pimms stall run by the Brentham Club - and they do enjoy drinking it as well as serving it!  Samrat, Roz Det, West Kebab and Sizzling Wok all decamped from Pitshanger Lane for the afternoon to offer a wide variety of delicious main courses, and the Pitshanger Play Centre offered strawberries and cream for dessert. A stroll away from the main stage and Gastrodome took PIP 2006 visitors to the dog show (organised by our own Village Vet) and onwards to a colourful tented city of outside stalls.  On offer this year was an eclectic range of jewellery, clothing, rugs, books and plants, charity stalls, games and even a tarot card reader.  (The tarot reader wasn't offering a prediction of the football result, by the way). Arts and crafts items on display
There was admittedly a bit of a lull around 4pm as England v Ecuador got underway.  However, the final round of Pitzhanga Popstar was cunningly timed for 6pm, and this drew an enthusiastic crowd of parents and supporters to the stage in the beer tent (operated again this year by Duffys).  Proceedings were brought to a close for another year by a thundering set from the local Buick Hill Band.
