St Barnabas church will be hosting 14 homeless people every Sunday night until the end of March as part of the Ealing Churches' Winter Night Shelter scheme (www.ecwns.org.uk). They’ll get a safe warm bed, an evening meal and breakfast, all provided by an army of volunteers helping at the venues (a rota of 18 churches covering every night of the week during winter) and doing ‘background’ tasks such as moving beds between venues, laundry, and administration.
Guests particularly appreciate the chance to relax and chat with volunteers over dinner in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They are offered a month in the shelter while they try to sort out their situation and find a way to move on to more permanent accommodation. The church expects to see at least 50 different guests over the course of the shelter.
